    CUSTOM TUNING REQUIRED!! Contact your Protuner in order to safely utilize this part! The COBB 3-Port Boost Solenoid (BCS) is an excellent upgrade for modern turbocharged vehicles, enabling precise boost control in a tidy package that is easy to install and tune. Our BCS will eliminate boost fluctuations inherent in the OEM boost control system, providing stable and repeatable boost control to base the vehicle's tune on. It is equally capable of providing this stable boost control at stock boost levels as well as extremely high boost levels associated with big-power builds. The COBB Tuning 3-Port BCS features 1/8" low-profile barb fittings to keep the unit compact and are nickel coated for corrosion resistance. Optional 1/4" nickel plated fittings are also available separately. Viton spools and seals are used throughout for long life and lubricated with Dow Corning silicone grease. The manual override is sealed with an O-ring, the wiring harness is sealed to the casing using a waterproof grommet and the solenoid wires are ultrasonically welded to the coil, making the device waterproof and safe to wash. The BCS is rated to operate up to 120psi. COBB Tuning has made the COBB 3-Port BCS installation as simple as possible. It mounts in the stock location and plugs directly into the stock wiring harness, making the physical install and electrical connection as simple as possible. The BCS comes with a custom aluminum mounting bracket, stainless steel hardware, boost-line to complete all connections and zip-ties to route the boost-line neatly through the engine bay.     If you've been in the Subaru game for long, you're probably well aware that a 3-port Boost Control Solenoid (BCS) is considered my most to be a 'must have' improvement before having your car tuned. GrimmSpeed has become the trusted brand in the BCS market, with tens of thousands of solenoids in operation today across the globe. The 2015 WRX offers a unique change of pace, as the factory 2-port solenoid is mounted directly to the plastic turbo inlet and interfaces with an o-ringed feature, rather than a vacuum hose. With expertise in designing machined parts and a tried and true boost control solenoid, we were excited to dig in and create a solution with an already proven pedigree of high performance and quality.

    The 3-Port Advantage

    The advantages of a 3-port boost control system vs. the factory 2-port system are readily apparent during the tuning process. The 3-port systems works by interrupting the boost signal traveling from the turbo to the wastegate. That boost is redirected back into the turbo inlet and re-ingested by the turbo using our machined adapter. This is important, as the factory Mass Airflow Sensor has already measured that air and is expecting that your motor will use it during combustion, rather than venting it to the atmosphere. The factory configuration simply 'bleeds' the signal from between the turbo and wastegate, which creates a system that is a bit less complex, but reacts more slowly and with less precision. The chart above shows two boost plots. The 'before' is our 2015 WRX, dyno tuned by a third party protuner. The 'after' is the exact same tune, but after the installation of the GrimmSpeed 3-Port BCS. As you can see, the addition of the GrimmSpeed BCS shows much tighter boost control and consistency. This is safer for your car and easier for your tuner.

    Design

    We began by recreating the factory turbo inlet and solenoid in CAD to ensure a perfectly fitting system. From there, we designed a beautifully fitting machined adapter that would recreate the o-ring sealing feature that the factory solenoid uses. This bracket features 1/8 NPT threads so that both barbed fittings (included) and AN fittings can be used interchangeably, for use with the GrimmSpeed BCS, Manual Boost Controller, or other boost control solutions. A small mounting bracket secures the solenoid to the machined adapter, to create a compact system, while still allowing those interested in running other boost control solutions the flexibility to do so. Mounting the solenoid directly in place of the stock solenoid allows for vacuum hoses of similar length and a shorter wiring harness. Lastly, we identified the exact electrical connector used on the stock solenoid so that the GrimmSpeed solution would be a true plug and play.

    Performance and Tuning Performance of the J-Pipe was verified on our 2015 WRX using the following method. Our tuned baseline run is the same run that we used in showing the boost control performance of the GrimmSpeed 3-Port Solenoid. We then installed the J-Pipe and retuned the car, using the exact same tuning methodology to ensure consistency. This ensured a real apples-to-apples comparison between the stock J-Pipe and the GrimmSpeed unit. The results showed a gain of 26.7whp (14.1%) and 19.8wtq (9.0%) and are displayed in the chart to the left. The percentage gains should be the focus here, as this particular dyno reads very low (stock baseline was 171). From a completely stock vehicle, users can expect a gain of around 45whp (27%) and 70wtq (41%) with the installation of the GrimmSpeed J-Pipe and custom tuning. The chart on the right shows this comparison. Design Our engineers began by 3D scanning the OEM J-Pipe and vehicle underbody using our in-house FARO Arm. That data was used in CAD to design a pipe that fits perfectly within the tight underbody packaging on a 2015 WRX without sacrificing ground clearance. The 2015 WRX uses a series of OEM brackets to support the weight of the turbo and J-pipe, the most important of which bolts to the turbine outlet flange. Our engineers insisted on using thick 1/2" stainless steel flanges, but also knew that without a clever design, the very important OEM brackets would no longer line up. The GrimmSpeed flange design uses a CNC machined pocket that the OEM bracket sits in during installation, allowing the use of 1/2" thick flanges as well as the factory turbo support bracket! Finally, they worked tirelessly to design and manufacture a J-Pipe that could be bent from a single piece of tubing. This allows for more efficient manufacturing, less potential failure points and a product that fits perfectly each and every time. Materials In true GrimmSpeed fashion, no corners were cut in the fabrication of each and every one of these J-Pipes. A proper design is no good without proper material selection. In this case, 304 series stainless steel is the best choice for durability, corrosion resistance and cost efficiency. Flanges are machined from 1/2" thick plate and the primary tube is CNC bent, laser cut and expanded from 3" tubing. O2 bungs (three of them) and our custom turbo studs (included) are both machined on a CNC lathe from 304 rod. Finally, finished assemblies are TIG welded using 308L filler rod. Construction Last, but certainly not least, is construction. A solid design and robust materials are nothing without use of the correct manufacturing methods and welding processes. Each GrimmSpeed J-Pipe is welded in the same master weld fixture. When not in use, a 'master pipe' lives in that fixture, allowing for a quick check, before each production run, that the fixture is still accurate. Even that isn't good enough for our engineers, so they 3D scan the fixture and master periodically, to ensure accuracy. Includes everything

    Exhaust leaks seem to be an all-too-common issue with most modded Subarus. They tend to spring up out of nowhere and cause hours of troubleshooting headaches. The most guaranteed leak you will get though is if you run an aftermarket 3" downpipe to an OEM or OEM like 2.5" Exhaust. Compare our adapter to the competition and you will immediatly see why we offer the best solution to finally end that pesky leak. Cut from Steel and hand welded these pieces were born tough. With the ability to work with both flat style gaskets AND donut gaskets they cannot be matched.
